
The creators are hoping municipal governments and community organizations will purchase the bags, which cost about $40 each to produce, to distribute to people like Alex Verdun, who has been collecting cans on the streets of Montreal for five years. Working mostly at night, targeting blue bins set out for pickup, Verdun collects about 1,000 cans and containers a day, earning $100 to $125 for a shift of up to 12 hours, up to six days a week in the summer, five in winter.
