Two grassy lots in a prime location in Chilliwack are up for rezoning, with an application going to council next week.
The lots, 8850 and 8890 School St., have sat empty for decades but recently rezoning application signs went up and a public notice has been posted online.
OTG Developments is applying to have both lots rezoned from CS1 (service commercial) to C9 (mid-rise apartment commercial).
The notice states that this would facilitate a future mixed-use commercial and residential development.
The lots in question line the west side of the Yale Road overpass, and sit between Alexander and Railway Avenues.
8850 School St. is 1.86 acres, and was assessed in 2024 and 2025 at $4,276,000, which is the approximate land value of the McDonald’s lot of similar size on the other side of the overpass.
8890 School St. is 1.01 acres, and was assessed in 2024 and 2025 at $2,332,000.
In 2016, the earliest date available in the City of Chilliwack’s online mapping tool, the parcels were assessed at $1,573,000 and $870,000.
Council will be presented with the application at their Jan. 6 meeting for a first, second and third reading.
