Staff member Beth Mackenzie, who collected data about Stella’s busy life from both Stella herself and visiting family members, commented: ”She never turns down an invitation to exercise of play a game and she is known for her competitive spirit.”
This remarkable woman remained an avid golfer plus other outdoor activities pulling her own clubs until her mid 90s. She also remains mentally active, especially fond of crossword puzzles and her walker is a portable library of puzzle books.
Mackenzie also passed on Stella’s comments on life: “Keep your mind and body active; enjoy the treats you love – but in moderation.”
Even at 105, when she plays games, “she plays to win,” is the word from Golden Pond staffers.
Her birthday celebration included an extra fancy cake and visits from relatives, as well as participation by residence staff.
