The Norwood Lions Club will be hosting a Dog’s Breakfast at the Norwood Town Hall this coming Sunday November 23, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Now do not let the name confuse you as this will be one of their traditional community breakfasts featuring their popular menu of scrambled eggs, pancakes with maple syrup, baked beans, peameal bacon, sausages, fruit, coffee, tea and juice. The only difference is all the proceeds from this fundraiser will go to the Lion’s Dog Guides of Canada to help fund the construction of a new training facility in Oakville Ontario. Lions Clubs of Canada run and support the center where service dogs are trained and provided at no cost to recipients from across Canada. Get you day started right with a hearty breakfast and support a great cause at the same time. Cost is $13 for adults, 7-12 years is $7 and kids 6 and under dine for free.

A few months ago a local Douro Dummer resident lost her home to a devastating fire. The home built in the 1990’s with her late husband, plus all contents was a complete loss. Since the fire Margie has been essentially homeless, relying on the generosity of friends and staying in different homes while she tries to figure out her next steps.
As an active member of the Havelock Seniors Club, Margie’s friends there have been looking at ways to help and have organized a couple of fundraisers.
The first will be a Cribbage Tournament on Saturday November 29 at their centre (10 George St. W, Havelock). This upcoming tournament will not fix everything, but it will help. Registration at 11 a.m. play begins at noon. Cost is $30 per two person team. Payout will be decided by the number of entries. Food will be available and the building is handicap accessible. For more information or to pre-register call Dave Nicholls at 705-768-2705 or John Mancini at 705-977-5711.

The second is a Branches of Hope Community Fundraiser on Saturday, December 6, again at the Havelock Seniors Centre. This will be a larger event with a silent auction, bake sale, card games, food and a variety of activities. The goal is to bring people together in camaraderie, give them a fun day out with multiple ways to help. More details to come.
A GoFundMe page has also been set up for monetary donations: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-rebuild-hope-for-margie-havelock-community-united
Donations of gift cards (for groceries, clothing, home goods, and more) can be dropped off at the Havelock Seniors Club (10 George St. W, Havelock).
All these fundraisers will have an extra impact thanks to Anette Targowski, a local realtor with EXIT Realty and the Spirit of EXIT Foundation. They have partnered with the Havelock Seniors Club to support them in raising funds to help Margie rebuild her life. “We’re trying to not only raise money but also restore her sense of security, dignity, and community.” A crucial part of this effort is that every dollar donated, up to $2,000, will be matched by the Spirit of EXIT Foundation. EXIT Realty sets aside funds specifically to support situations like this, where community members are in crisis and need help getting back on their feet. So every donation effectively doubles in impact.
